As academic positions dwindle in number in this tough economic climate, and new opportunities arise for practicing anthropology, many anthropologists may be considering applied careers. The National Association for the Practice of Anthropology (NAPA) has some useful suggestions for those pursuing work in government, consulting, cultural resource management, development and non-profits.

NAPA’s July 2008 bulletin, “Careers in Applied Anthropology in the 21st Century,” provides helpful advice. This issue is available through AnthroSource (membership required) and Wiley InterScience (free electronic sample). It features 15 thematic articles, including advice from both academic and practicing anthropologists.

A brief list of career resources is compiled below. If you have additional suggestions, please post them in our comments section.
