As a follow-up to yesterday’s post on Franz Boas, Bill Silberg, Vice President of Publishing and Communications at the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), has shared with us a link to a 1912 paper that Boas published in the academy’s Annals. The essay reminds us: “At every step, there are lacunae of our knowledge which our imagination may temporarily bridge to serve as a guide for further inquiries but which have to be filled by solid, careful work to reach results that will be acceptable before the forum of science.”
This essay is part of a virtual collection of historical papers made available to the public in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin (another Academy member). The Annals have been fully digitized back to 1824 and can be accessed through institutional subscription or NYAS membership (click for issue list).
