On May 20, we posted about the Kyoto University Museum Academic Film EXPO 2009, which is accepting entries for its Academic Film Competition, including ethnographic films. Submitted works will be screened at the EXPO and discussed at the Kyoto University International Symposium 2009.
Today we received an update noting that the judging panel includes visual anthropologist Yasuhiro Omori, and that the host institution will sponsor the winner of the Academic Film Grand Prize to attend the awards ceremony. Selected and prize-winning works will be screened during the EXPO’s finale (Nov 25-Dec 10), with general screenings, discussions and workshops to begin in early August.
See the Japanese or English language websites for additional information. Online entry deadline: Aug 31, 2009. Film and report submission deadline: Sept 15, 2009. Prizes include filmmaking subsidies of 300,000 and 100,000 yen.
