The World Oral Literature Project picks up steam

markturin1AAA member Dr. Mark Turin recently gave a brief interview to the Telegraph about the aspirations and goals of The World Oral Literature Project, which he heads.  The project is a global initiative to archive and make available oral literatures in danger of disappearing.

Turin says:

When a language becomes endangered so too does a cultural world view.  We want to engage with indigenous people trying to document their myths and folklore, which can be harder to find funding for if you are based outside Western universities.

The project has also been featured in several other articles, including ones at the Guardian and the Daily Mail Online, as well as a few BBC radio clips found here.

Additionally, Turin will be presenting the project in a poster session at the AAA Annual Meeting in December.
