American University will host “Advancing Social Justice in Times of Crisis: The 6th Annual Public Anthropology Conference” from October 9-10, 2009.
According to the organizers: “This conference seeks participants interested in advancing social justice and working toward progressive social change during times of economic, social, environmental and political crisis. We invite community activists, practicing and academic anthropologists and other social scientists, students, and interested individuals to join us for two days of collaborative discussions and strategizing about how to better support the communities we work with during times of crisis. Participants are encouraged to share experiences and insights from environmental, labor, liberation, GLBTQ, peace, anti-racism, anti-displacement, feminist, indigenous rights, health, disability rights, fair trade, and other social justice movements.”
The cost to attend the conference is free, and you can submit your proposal through Sept 4th and sign up as an attendee through Oct 8th.
