Anthropologist Nancy Abelmann (Univ. Illinois Urbana-Champaign) delivered the welcoming address for the 2010 conference of The Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Advanced Collaboratory (HASTAC). The virtual conference, “Grand Challenges and Global Innovations,” was held across a variety of digital spaces, including Second Life, YouTube, and Google Wave.
HASTAC organized a number of presentations that may be of interest to anthropologists, such as Guiding the Ethnography of the University Initiative: A Meditation on the Global Implications of Our Local Conversations Across Time and Future Social Science On and With Digital Media.
