The Back in Print Book Discussion Series highlights AAA books and monographs that are once again available via the Back in Print Program. Each part of this series asks key questions posed by the author or editor of one of the available books. We invite you to comment on the questions or simply give your feedback on the topic. To learn more about the Back in Print Program, other available titles and place an order for yourself or a class, visit our webpage or contact Dion Dears.
The first part of the series opens discussion stemming from Honor and Shame and the Unity of the Mediterranean, edited by David D. Gilmore (Hunter College, CUNY). Dr. Gilmore’s questions for discussion are:
1. Are there continuities of culture in the Mediterranean World?
2. Is honor always “male,” shame always “female”?
3. How have the cultural patterns debated in the book changed over the past 25 years?
Honor and Shame and the Unity of the Mediterranean was originally published in 1987 as a special publication of the American Anthropological Association, number 22.
