Donna Haraway recently brought the notion of “intra-action” from the realm of physics to the domains of ecology, ethology, and multispecies ethnography. In San Francisco an invited panel of multispecies ethnographers will enter into discussion with Karen Barad, the theorist who originally coined the term “intra-action” to get beyond the metaphysics of individualism underpinning conventional understandings of “interactions.” This special off-site event will be held in SomArts a gallery hosting the Audible Observatories exhibit
curated by Ethnographic Terminalia. Karin Bolender, an artist who founded the Rural Alchemy Workshop, will interrupt our discussions with “Gut Sounds Lullaby”, a performance piece involving a live party pony. Audience members are invited to join the conversation, to intra-act with the pony and invited panelists.
