New Australopithecus Shows Bipedalism

Anthropologist Yohannes Haile-Selassie appeared on NPR’s Science Friday to discuss the discovery of Kadanuumuu (Big Man), an Australopithecus afarensis dating back 3.6 million years ago. Kadanuumuu is a relative of Lucy who dates back 3.2 million years. Research of the newly discovered fossils suggests that bipedalism was a common Australopithecus trait.

2009 Annual Report
