Today the President will be giving the opening and closing remarks at the White House Tribal Nations Conference. The conference will include leaders from 564 federally recognized tribes and various Cabinet secretaries. At 4.4 million years old, Ardipithecus ramidus, uncovered in 1992, is nearly 1.2 million years older than the famous Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis). The Discovery, Times Square Exposition is currently featuring the archaeological exhibit “Lucy’s Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia”. One of the latest breakthrough archaeological discoveries, Ida (Plate B), has recently joined Lucy at the Times Square Exposition in New York. The exhibit will remain on display until October 25, 2009.

The Archaeological Legacy Institute, a non-profit based in Oregon, is sponsoring a four day film festival entitled The Archaelolgy Channel.
