It’s Montreal Monday!

The AAA 110th Annual Meeting will take place this year in Montréal, Quebec, Canada from November 16-20, 2011. Now is the time to renew your membership, pre-register for the Annual Meeting, book your hotel,  and add the workshops to your itinerary.

Our gracious Canadian hosts will be presenting sessions with a Canadian theme throughout the AAA Annual Meeting. Montréalology: Traces, Tidemarks & Legacies of a Unique City of Differences and Canadian Indigeneities are two sessions that feature a myriad of 15 minute presentations.

What day and time do these two sessions occur?

In honor of our host city’s bilingual essence, this week’s response must be given in French.
E-mail your answer to americananthro@gmail.com by the end of today.

Two lucky people with the correct answer will win an Annual Meeting t-shirt from the new AAA Café Press shop. Winning answers will be announced here later in the week, so check back often.

Anthropologists Will Come to Montreal in Record Numbers

AAA will host its 110th Annual Meeting this November in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Members and non-members alike were encouraged to submit proposals for this year’s scholarly sessions. This year’s call for papers has just ended with a historically high number of 4,510 submissions.

Proposal topics embrace the meeting theme of “Traces, Tidemarks and Legacies” through the myriad of anthropological fields of science and humanities. This 2011 theme invites participants to reflect on how all fields of anthropology, whose own locations have also been rearranged, are engaging with these shifting realities in which we live, within and across disciplines and regions.

Meeting participant registration also led to a historical high of 5,203 registrants. Anthropologists and those whose work intersects with anthropology will be attending from around the globe, with 17% of registrants coming from outside the United States and Canada. AAA Director of Meetings, Jason G. Watkins, CMP said, “In a time when budget reductions are at the forefront, anthropologists are persevering in their work and have prioritized the AAA Annual Meeting due to the benefits of scholarly exchange and network building opportunities.”

Two periods of Annual Meeting pre-registration occur before arriving in Montreal. Pre-registration re-opens in June 2011.

It’s Montréal Monday!

Montréal will be the host city of the 110th AAA Annual Meeting! Montréal is the university research capital of Canada. With more than 165,000 students enrolled in Montréal universities, the city ranks first in North America for the number of university students per capita.

With these factoids, here’s your final Montréal Monday trivia question:
Out of the more than 11,000 AAA members, how many of them are students?
Keep in mind that professionals make up more than 50% of the AAA membership population.

Understanding that students are notorious for keeping long hours to study as much as possible, please submit your answer as a comment to this post by 11:59 p.m. EST today (Monday, April 11) to be eligible to win. Students are also notorious to be in need to clean clothing, so this week two lucky winners will receive a t-shirt from our new AAA Café Press shop.

Remember, now is the time to renew your membership, complete your meeting registration and submit your proposal. The proposal deadline is April 15, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
